This amazing wall up in the mountains was built in the 19th century to deflect avelanches away from a village and the railway line.

The mountain tracks in this beautiful country are fantastic and must have required many years of dedicated struggles to achieve what we sometimes take for granted around the world.

This corbelled seat and area for a tap with space for a bucket is in the garden of Dani Mettler who lives near Berne. His work involves helping farmers to protect their animals from attacks by wolves and bears.
I shall publish more photos of examples from Switzerland. See entries for 20th and 24th January.

Goat on Funky seat
